Asbestos

Asbestos

A naturally occurring fibrous mineral found in the ground and mined all over the world. Asbestos has been found to be a human carcinogen. Continuous exposure can cause asbestosis, a chronic lung disease and mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the chest, the abdomen or the heart. This cancer is extremely rare or non existent in populations not exposed to asbestos. Exposure is frequently associated with workers employed in shipyards, boat construction and brake linings.
