On November 5, 2001, as a result of a number of deaths in several countries, Baxter International Inc. recalled dialysis filters (used in treating kidney failure) which may have played a part in the deaths. It is believed that a chemical used in testing the filters was not completely removed before being packaged and shipped. The chemical then evidently entered patients bloodstream during dialysis treatment.
