Diethylstilbestrol |
DES or DiethylstilbestrolDES or Diethylstilbestrol is a synthetic estrogen drug that was given to pregnant women primarily from 1938-1971. Use of DES during pregnancy was thought to prevent miscarriage and ensure a healthy pregnancy. In fact women who took DES during their pregnancy have a somewhat higher risk of breast cancer. Daughters born from women who took DES have a risk for a rare cancer of the cervix or vagina called clear cell adenocarcinoma. This cancer is practically non existent in non DES exposed women in this age group. DES daughters also have reported increased risk of infertility. Sons born from women who took DES have no known increased health problems. However some DES sons have reported increased risk of problems with genital organs such as cysts on testicles. Small testicles, undescended testicles, and increased testicular varicoceles. If you or a loved one may have been injured through the use of DES you may want to contact a New York attorney for more information on Diethystilbestrol.
