Phenylpropanolamine
PPA (Phenylpropanolamine)
Phenylpropanolamine or PPA is an ingredient used in prescription and over the counter drug products such as nasal decongestants to relieve stuffy nose or sinus congestion. It is also found in weight control products to suppress appetite. In May 2000 the FDA received results of a study conducted at Yale University School of Medicine that showed an increase risk of hemorrhagic stroke( bleeding in the brain) in people who were taking PPA. The FDA has concerns that the seriousness of a stroke and inability to predict who is at risk outweigh the benefits of using PPA. In November of 2000 the FDA issued a warning to consumers to discontinue using over the counter products which contain Phenypropanolamine. They instructed manufacturers to discontinue marketing products containing PPA. If you or a loved one may have been injured through the use of PPA you may want to contact a New York personal injury attorney regarding Phenylpropanolamine.
